2024 One-day Alternate Shot Progressive Doubles Competition

This is a new competition that will be held on Saturday 25th May 2024

  • We need 8 players for this to work well, ideally 4 with lower handicaps and 4 with higher handicaps, so please book your place a.s.a.p. by e-mailing Heather - you may be placed on a reserve list if more people enter!.

  • The closing date for signing up is Monday 20th May

  • There will be 3 rounds – each is a 14 point, full lawn doubles game, playing alternate shots. The games will be double-banked.

  • If you sign up to play, you will be expected to play all 3 games – it will mess up the whole tournament otherwise.

  • The time limit will be 1.5 hours, with the normal one extra turn when time is called, so PWD (play with dispatch!) If there is still a draw at the end of the extra turns, there will not be any extra time allowed, so there could be a drawn game. Please note that this is not normal procedure.

  • The 4 lower handicap players will partner a different higher handicap player in each round.

  • There will be 2 winners – one higher handicap and one lower handicap.

The winners will be decided by:

  1. number of wins

  2. points scored (2 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss)

  3. hoop difference (not ideal, but practical!)

  4. tie-breaker if needed

 

Timings

  • Round 1:   9.30 – 11.00

  • Coffee break

  • Round 2:  11.30 – 1.00

  • Lunch :     bring your own, but tea/coffee will be provided.

  • Round 3:  1.30 – 3.00

 

Please be there by 9.15 if you want a “warm-up” and there will then be a short briefing before start of play.

Remember – this is for FUN as well as improving our ASD play!
